6th Annual Josh memorial run, Sierra Vista, April 26th?

Unread postby Ashman » Sat Mar 08, 2014 6:34 am

Thinking about this years Memorial run, past years we have always done it in April. There are only two races Im doing this year, both at in April, Tucson April 5th and Moab 19th, Ill need the weekend between to prep the buggy. April 26th is the weekend after my Moab trip, I cant guarantee the buggy will be wheelable.

One trail thats been on my list for the memorial run is Ash in Sierra Vista. I dont think its been run since before the big fire. It was a pretty hard core trail, might be harder or easier now. Pretty short trail but still filled most of a day in past years. I would rate it a 4-4.5 on the 5 scale so lockers required, 35s or larger tires, body damage likely but not a buggy trail. Overall its a wide trail, one obstacle we called $500 rock if you fell in it would cost you about $500 in damage. The trail starts with an easy waterfall climb. Has a big boulder you need to squeeze around that can trash rooflines of beds. Past years winching in the group was needed at afew points, some welding even a roll over.

Found an old video from 2007 we did

John's tan CJ was on 47s, totally not necessary but fun. Had my old XJ buggy and Pat drove his formula Toyota Werock rig.

Rumor is there may be a gate or fence which would kill this trip location.

More pics to know what it is, would be disappointing in a buggy, overwhelming in a stock jeep..

I think I have an Idea for the t-shirt concept. let me know what you guys think. Im looking for input.
Not sure if we could do printing on the back also, if we did it would be the mountain logo on the back.

Also give me a head count of who is going and what your t-shirt size is. Past years Josh's dad has donated the shirts to the club for free.

Revised... Concept 3

Not sure the exact route you have taken in the past but if you go to the end of the Ash where it crosses the wash and turns into a narrow two track, there is a gate. The gate is across the wash and only blocks you if you plan on heading up the 2 track towards the switch backs up to the saddle. I'm guessing ya'll crawled up the wash in the past? If so, the gate won't be an issue.

Yea That should be the wash we drive up. Typically at the end of the wash we follow a road back down, there used to be a turn off right after the first waterfall worst case we could take that from the road back onto the trail and drive down the waterfall.

Brody sent me this pics from last weekend. Gate was open.
