cracks laborday weekend

Unread postby bakednaz » Sun Sep 06, 2009 5:30 pm

Had alot of fun, it rained good and solid for the first several hours we were there. We waited for about an hour and decided we came to wheel and not stand around so off we went. It stopped when we were going through the snake pit and things started to dry off. Sunday morning was clear and sunny. We had 3 jeeps and 4 sammy's, i'll let the jeepers tell you all who broke :p . Pics to come shortly.

A few pics.
We had a blast-even with the rain-made it a little more of challenge! I guess the story goes is like this: 3 Jeeps came and 3 Jeeps fell-1 broke a slip yoke, 2 broke axle u-joints-1 was an open D30, the other spooled D44, oh and a bent rear driveshaft!

Suzuki's-0 for failures that I am aware of
Tracker-0 for failures

In my defense-I tried harder! :thumb:

You guys gave up too soon. A little rain didn't scare us off Memorial Day! We cruised over to the Cracks Sunday at 3pm and there was not a soul around. Ran up and down everything, and then walked the actual cracks. Did you guys head over to the actual cracks?

We were out there this weekend too. Saw you guys come in Saturday morning. It sucked with the rain, but we went out that evening when it all cleared up. It was a good time and an awesome spot.

Hey Miller, if you didn't see anyone out there, you're blind... There was this group, and my group camped close to them. We had a total of 4 rigs on Saturday, plus these guys....

Did you guys have the black jeep, 2 cherokee's and maybe a red scrambler that didn't play Sat. evening?

So who is whom?

Even with the rain, sad I didn't make this one. Passed Kevin near Glenwood today - made me curious as to how things went.

Cool stuff!

We saw you guys heading South on the 377 ~2:30 on Sunday. Red Tracker and a Blue(?) Suki? We had the Black YJ and Red TJ buggys.

As of Sunday 3pm, there was nobody at the Cracks. That's when we pulled up. There was a hunter in the area, but that's all we saw and heard.

We saw you guys. I was pulling the Tracker. There were 4 other rigs just hitting the trails when we left. We'll have to plan better next time :thumb:

Yep, that was us... I was the black YJ. The other guys are not part of WAZ but all local guys in Tucson. We went out Saturday night when the rain let up and played for quite a while. I debeaded a tire in the snake pit, and the previous day cracked the welds on the 14 bolt carrier which made it open diff. Justin up in Snowflake had another one for me, so its all good now.

And Miller, yea...that would be the difference. By 3 PM Sunday I was almost back to Tucson.

Hmmmm, we didn't see or hear any rigs, or see any tow rigs. And we ran all the trails including the new one fowards and backwards and walked the cracks..... That was all within less than a 3 hour span so I don't know how we didn't see anyone.

Well, started out the weekend up at our place with Bernie and a bunch of old buddys from Tucson. Headed out to the Whiplash race Saturday morning. Watching the morning race, then I had an issue with my steering, the hiem on the ram shaft unthreaded 20+ turns and came completely off. Called up Justin who just happened to recently pick up a 3/4"x16tpi tap. Went back to Pinedale, got the truck and trailer, drove back to Clay Springs where I had to leave the pile and load it up to head to Snowflake. Fixed the pile at Justin's and then went by the pits to say hey to a few people. Went back to Pinedale, unloaded and went down to the wash to play around. Saturday night was delicious steaks. Sunday headed out to the Whiplash race again and then Bernie and I took off early, loaded up and headed for the Cracks.

These are just for you James after talking to a little birdie. The buggy line with no rear dig in a leaf spring hoopty pile. That line can turn ugly in a hurry if you have a bad spotter. Fun with Bill riding shotgun though!

Your buggy line #2 is where my front u-joint started crackling! Dropped down in there, turned left, kept trying to get my rear around, couldn't, tried a front dig, crackling-@#$% backed up and climbed up the other side to get out-more crackling before I got to the top and winched about 6 inches so I could disengage my front end and 2 wheel it back to camp!

I guess I don't have a "buggy" :D

I forgot to mention, that line you get a little bound up as well! Guess you found that out the hard way. The worse part is getting the front to climb spanning the gap, especially when your spotter doesn't have you far enough passenger and turning into it. The pics of my rig(Black YJ thingy) works but is the "hard" way. Notice how straight my tire is and not far enough passenger. The Red TJ buggy is alot nicer on parts and also less likely to fall in. Notice how far the tire is turned and how far passenger the tires is. Stickys, water, and suckdown also help for the exit to carry the rear without the front end of the rig unloading.
