5th Annual Josh Memorial Run April 12-14th

Unread postby Ashman » Thu Feb 28, 2013 7:29 am

Planning the 5th annual Josh memorial run. Ive been talking with Tom Christmas the owner of Josh's old Fj40 and were looking at doing this trip near lake pleasant north of phoenix. Exit rd is between mile marker 8 and 9 on the carefree highway 74.

I havent wheeled this area but Tom and his wheeling buddies know the area. The staging area we are planning for is just before "The boulders" staging area which is between mile marker 11 and 12. The Hieroglyphic Mountains/ Boulders is on state trust land so you should have a state trust permit. This area is a mix of state trust, BLM and private property.

Here is a map of the area
http://azstateparks.com/ohv/downloads/O ... lyphic.pdf

Planning to drip up friday Night to camp. Wheel Saturday, Can Sat Night and drive home Sunday.

Vehicle requirements will be mild, all makes and models, not a buggy only run.

Josh's Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3947&hilit=Josh+toylet&start=150

We do an annual memorial run for Josh every year around April close to his birthday.

I'm gonna try and make it, about 90% sure. Mailed in my State Trust Land permit app last week.

Some pictures of the boulders trails. Most trails I expect to be mild with optional side lines. From what Ive seen I would compare difficulty to the Elvis trail in Florence.

One easy trail well probably run at the Boulders is called loop 9 about 22 miles 4 hours long.

Rating Level: 2.0-3.0, some parts are easy, some parts are moderate. The terrain style for this trail offers narrow, rocky shelf roads, & steep inclines. A stock jeep can do this trail but must use bypasses.

Feature: Trail offers hill climbs, play areas with obstacles, and great views of the valley.

Time: Prepare for an all day trip. Should take 3-4 hours to complete the loop.

This trail can cause body damage & starches.

This guy had trouble with it wet in a stock jeep... but not real tough. I dont know if this has a bypass or not.
Trip reports I have found said several stock JKs in their group had no issues.

T-shirts do look great. I would like to make a donation, but being
the no0b I am I don't know where to send money. Do you have a special
paypal account or just make a contribution on my own?
