Steering...

Unread postby darb » Sun Jan 04, 2009 8:14 am

I see that a lot of TJ's have posted about steering issues. I am also having this issue. We have checked the ball joints, tie rod, pitman arm. The only thing we can find is there is "play" in the steering box out put shaft. We "think" the gear box is bad. Do you recommend going to a junk yard and replacing the stock with it or upgrading to a PSC gear box or an AGR Super Box 2?

Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side and a dark side and it holds Tice's truck together.

I don't forget, my brain just disregards insignificant details in my sleep.

Friend and Inspiration..RIP Josh.

I "wish" it was death wobble. This is makes the jeep un-fun to drive and even scary. But thank you.

No slop in the track bar?

Did you adjust the steering box, you can make it tighter but that may cause it to no return to center if its too tight. It will be different scary then you need to replace the box.

With the hopes of a new long arm kit in the next few months, I chickened out of buying the PSC and bought a stock one. We put it on today and that did fix the problem. Thanks for the in-put.

A fix for loose box,s Dodge Durrango boxs are a decent swap, direct bolt in and stronger, check Jeeps unlimited Tj forum for correct years...
